What is the best website for alternative gifts to support projects in Afghanistan?
Afghanistan
HYPR asked:

I hate to buy material gifts, and prefer to honor the people I care about by donating to projects in the developing world. This year I’m especially interested in projects that support schools, health care and such in Afghanistan, because we have an obligation to rebuild that country, and it is so important to win their hearts and minds.

An Alternative Gifts market at is fantastic! I have used them for many gifts. They publish a long list of projects/causes which detail what the need is and how your money is used. For example, $22 purchases one soloar cooker, black pot and wax thermometer in Gambia. It will send your loved one a card with all the info as well. They take on new projects each year. this years list doesn’t include anything specific to Afghanistan but it is definitely still worth a look as there are several other countries in dire need.

Hope that is helpful and good luck!

One website that would suite your needs is OurVoicesTogether.org. Our Voices Together is an organization created by family and friends of 9/11 victims. The idea is that poverty spawns hate, and hate spawns terrorism, so by working to eliminate poverty, we can eliminate terrorism. The website features a gift shop where one can give money to support different projects such as supporting schools, providing education on women’s issues, and providing basic health care for children and families in areas where terrorism is a major issue, particularly Afghanistan.
